Kumuka Worldwide – Overland tours (benefits of)
Richard Gardner, managing director Kumuka Worldwide Australia and New Zealand

“Kumuka Overland tours take place onboard the renowned blue Kumuka overland trucks, which are specially designed for both comfort and the ability to travel off-road across rugged terrain.

“I think the popularity of Overland tours stems from its expedition style of travel, which attracts people that are seeking a highly involved and participatory holiday. It allows them to experience an uninhibited look at the remote wilderness and countryside of some of the world’s most incredible locations, which is an unforgettable adventure.

“We receive great feedback from our customers about the level of involvement they have in the day-to-day running of our tours. Each Kumuka tour member is involved with setting up camp and cooking meals, which we’ve found really adds to the overall experience of an Overland tour.

“Kumuka’s Overland tours are extremely popular, with tours throughout Africa and South America booked out up to five months in advance. One of our most popular tours in Africa is the 21 day African Drums tour, incorporating the game parks of the Masai Mara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. In South America, our three week Inca Heights tour is a popular tour, including a four day trek to Machu Pichu.

“Traditionally Overland tours were long trips that lasted many months, however as they have become more popular the demandfor shorter tours has increased. Whilst we still offer and fully-book our longer tours that last up to 16 weeks, the bulk of our bookings is now for tours lasting three to four weeks.

“Importantly, Kumuka Overland tours are highly inclusive. All meals whilst camping, entrance fees and activities as per itinerary and tolls and taxes are included. Offering more inclusions means better value and easier budgeting for travellers.

“Travellers should ensure that an Overland operator encourages sustainable tourism to reduce the impact on local culture andthe environment, whilst simultaneously safeguarding and preserving opportunities for future travellers. Kumuka donate $50 for every tour booking to Unicef.
