Coming
for a swim?
As
we bake in mid summer temperatures in the
southern hemisphere, on the other side of
the world the mercury has hit rock bottom.
One thing that people in both hemispheres
have in common right now is swimming. In the
south we’re heading to the beaches to
cool down, whilst in the north we dream of
packing the bags and heading to warmer climes,
donning the ‘cozzie and diving into
exotic waters.
To
help you beat or meet the heat why not head
to one of Kumuka’s swimming holes this
season?
Diving
in Dahab, Egypt will blow your
mind. On the edge of a desert, the waters
surrounding the stunning coral reef are always
crystal clear due to the lack of precipitation
stirring up the underground. After a hot and
dry trek across the desert, diving into the
cool waters to the underwater garden is like
dying and going to heaven!
Swimming
in the Amazon
in South America is for the adventurous,
as you share the water with piranhas and caiman
(alligators). Though under the watch of your
trusted guide you are safe, it is still quite
an adrenalin rush, and then a dream to dry
off in shade of the jungle and watch pink
dolphins playing near by as Toucans and Macaws
fly overhead.
The
soothing, warm, natural spring waters of the
Aguas
Calientes baths, in Peru, after
4 days trekking to Machu Picchu are a must!
There is no greater geologic joy in the world
than a hot spring strategically located
at the end of a long trek. Surround the
hot spring with snow capped mountains, and
throw in a few ice-cold local beers, and you
will be in complete bliss.

Côte
d'Azur in the French Riviera
is so hot right now!, OK so it’s actually
a little cool at the moment but with sunshine
300 days a year and crystal clear water it
is stunning all year round. In summer you
can pretend you are rich and famous for the
day, by hiring a day bed on the beach and
lying there sipping cocktails with people
wearing “bling” sitting right
next to you.
There
is nothing quite like chilling
out at Caye Caulker, Belize.
A tiny, laid-back Caribbean island with the
world’s second longest reef within swimming
distance of its shores. With diving and snorkelling
options galore, as well as the lure of warm
azure waters, and a fantastically preserved
marine reserve, it is the ultimate place to
float around and unwind.
Snorkelling
off the coast of Zanzibar in
Tanzania with green sea turtles is incredible;
the water is clear, warm, turquoise blue and
teeming with marine life. Back on land the
most delicious seafood is being cooked up
by skilled locals in rustic restaurants, where
you can kick back at the end of the day, drink
cold beer, eat culinary delights and forget
all of your troubles.
The
optional horse ride along the shores and into
the water of Lake
Malawi is a great way to see
the area around Kande, not to mention going
swimming with a horse! You often forget you
are on the shores of a lake, so vast is Lake
Malawi it feels more like the ocean.
With
all of the beautiful bodies around it is a
little intimidating to strip off, but swimming
at Copacobana
beach in Rio, Brazil is an experience
of its own. The blend of "Carioca's"
(Rio locals) and tourists, creates a exciting
atmosphere which drives you into the beachside
café’s at the days end to sip
the local drink “capirinha” until
the sun goes down. Then… its time to
party!
Dipping
in the Dead
Sea in Jordan is a riot because
you simply cannot sink! Try as you may you
won’t go down, its great fun to just
float around and read a newspaper then cover
yourself with therapeutic mud!

The last place on earth you would probably
imagine yourself stripping down to your swim
suit is, in fact, the last place on earth
– Antarctica.
A swim in the hot springs at Pendulum Cove
will offer you a unique experience as you
feel snow on your shoulders whilst the hot
water keeps you toasty. Don’t be surprised
to see a friendly seal near by as you bathe
in this ethereal swimming hole!
So what are you waiting for, swim a little
further with Kumuka.
